We have a horrid old couch that is covered by a horrid old slipcover. It's not even worthy of the most desperate of college students. However, after tomorrow, it will be no more. Today, Becca and I experienced The Gallery Furniture adventure. Neither of us had been there before, but Mattress Mack is rather a phenomenon in Houston - as much for his philanthropy as his company. We later learned that he's at work every day, from open to close, despite the fact that he is quite wealthy. He started very humbly, and definitely still has the work ethic that got him to where he is today.

Mattress Mack wasn't around when we walked in, but he'd make periodic announcements over the loudspeaker and at one point I mused to Becca, "Do you think these are recorded, or is he really here?" She thought that he might be actually making the announcements live. I went back to the front at one point looking for a salesperson and he was working the front desk! Seriously. The man himself. There was a lady walking around offering out ice creams, and Becca lamented that she wanted one, right in front of Mac, and he called over the loudspeaker for the ice cream lady to come to the front! He also called the saleslady who had been helping us, despite the fact that they don't work on commission. It was still good for her, however, I'm sure, to get her name on the sale, and since she'd been so helpful, we wanted to make sure it was associated with her. They said it could be delivered tonight, but we opted for tomorrow morning, sometime between 10 and 2.

I'm so excited! New furniture!
