who needs tv when you have dogs?

13:13

Sometimes, Bennet will stand in the middle of the living room floor and just start howling at whoever's around. He's supposedly in, er, pure bred Border Collie so where he gets this howling trait from, I have no idea. Usually, the result is just Becca and I howling back at him. Which gets him more worked up, and so on. It's really quite entertaining.

So last night when Bennet came over and howled at us, we howled back at him. Nothing unusual there. However, for some reason, we decided that it would be a good idea to get both dogs really riled up. Maybe it was the copious amounts of wine (i.e., two glasses) involved, I don't know. The howling degernated into high-pitched barks (on Bennet's end), and then Apache decided to join in on the game. After an initial howl, she jumped right into the barking. Never having been the direct recipient of Apache's bark, Becca and I just stared at her, half in shock. Even Bennet stopped barking and looked at her. She stood there, just barking at us, a deep, mean, growly bark. (I love how it's my dog, the male, who has the higher pitched bark.) If I didn't know better, I would have sworn she was going to attack, despite the wagging tail. She's really quite a sight when she gets going.

Poor dogs, we had them completely wound up and then we didn't even play fetch. We're such bad owners. But it's so much fun.
